Over two harrowing months, Baalsrud faced unimaginable challenges – from being buried in an avalanche to self-amputating frostbitten toes with a penknife, battling starvation, and enduring snow blindness. Yet, against all odds, he persevered, finding refuge in an empty cabin thanks to the courageous assistance of local villagers risking their lives to aid him.
Despite the constant threat of capture and execution, Baalsrud ultimately achieved freedom and lived out the rest of his days, his legacy forever etched in history until his passing in 1988 at the age of 71. Join us as we follow in his footsteps and honour his incredible journey, paying tribute to the indomitable human spirit of Jan Baalsrud.
