Embark on a thrilling journey with us in February 2025 as we recreate the Heroes of Telemark's legendary escape route after their successful sabotage mission on the Heavy Water factory at Vemork, Norway.
The Kompani Linge Heroes played a pivotal role in Operation Gunnerside, a globally renowned sabotage operation during World War II. The mission aimed to thwart Nazi Germany's production of Deuterium Oxide, commonly known as heavy water, crucial for their nuclear energy program.
This extraordinary 13 -day expedition, inclusive of comprehensive training, promises to push your physical and mental limits. Following the footsteps of the Heroes, our journey commences from the original escape route start point in Rjukan.
Tailored for enthusiasts seeking endurance and adventure, our expedition covers winter survival skills and delves into the historical context of the wartime era. Progressing at a deliberate pace of 3 kilometres per hour, this experience is ideal for individuals eager to test their mettle in a demanding winter environment.
Navigate through some of Norway's most challenging and rugged terrains, relying on traditional log cabins for survival. Are you resilient enough to trace the heroic path of those who faced these challenges head-on? The pinnacle of our expedition will be a visit to the historic crossing point at the Swedish border where the heroes crossed to freedom. Join us and discover if you have what it takes to follow in their footsteps.
Upon your arrival at the airport, our dedicated team will be there to warmly welcome you, followed by a brief introduction to set the stage for the incredible journey ahead.
After the introductions, we'll proceed to gather our ski equipment and essential survival stores. The day will culminate with a delightful evening meal at our hotel, setting the tone for the camaraderie that will define our expedition.
Several days of ski training and familiarisation with survival skills will ensure everyone is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Over the course of several days and nights, we will traverse Europe's highest plateau, spending a few nights in the original saboteur hyttes, connecting with the history and spirit of those who embarked on this daring mission before crossing the border to freedom.
At around midnight on February 16, 1943 led by Joachim Ronneberg the leader of Operation Gunnerside team jumped from a plane under the cover of darkness.
The 6 saboteurs had to take shelter in Jansbu Hytte from a storm before continuing on with the journey. Meeting up with the rest of Operation Grouse team they came together to assault the heavy water factory at Vemork.
Includes full board, all transfers in country, expedition ski equipment, guide fees and survival training. Does not include flights to Norway and alcohol.
£2995 can be paid in instalments.
