D-DAY AIRBORNE & SPECIAL OPS - 9TH - 16TH JUNE

Jedburgh Team Ivor - By Colourised PIECE of JAKE

JUMP INTO THE SLIPSTREAM OF LEGENDS

The Second World War was won not just on the beaches but also in the shadows. Few units embody the spirit of clandestine warfare like the SAS, Jedburghs, SOE, and OSS. These elite formations composed of British SOE, American OSS, and Free French operatives, alongside Belgian and Polish volunteers, formed the spearhead of Allied special operations.

Parachuted into occupied Europe under the cover of darkness, their mission was to ignite the French Resistance, coordinate with the SAS, sabotage enemy infrastructure, gather intelligence, and sow the chaos that crippled the German war machine behind the Atlantic Wall.

Step into the shadows of 1944 with SOE Expeditions for the definitive D-Day Special Operations experience. This uncompromising seven-day journey retraces the footsteps of the men and women who helped shape the liberation of Europe, from the D-Day headquarters at Southwick House and its underground command tunnels to the battlefields and drop zones of Normandy and Brittany.

Stand on the iconic Pegasus Bridge, where the 6th Airborne Division launched one of the most successful coup de main operations of the war in the opening minutes of D-Day. Walk the blood-soaked ground at La Fière Bridge, where paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division held the vital causeway against fierce German counterattacks, ensuring the success of the Utah Beach landings. Follow the trail of the SAS, Jedburgh teams, SOE agents, OSS operatives, and the French Resistance as they fought a secret war behind enemy lines that helped turn the tide of the European campaign.

To truly honor their legacy, you will have the opportunity to experience a fraction of their raw courage with an optional tandem parachute jump onto an authentic SAS drop zone, mirroring the leap of faith taken by these extraordinary men and women into occupied France.

Join us to follow in their footsteps and preserve the legacy of those who fought in the shadows, whose courage, sacrifice, and determination helped liberate Europe.

D-DAY HEADQUARTERS

At Southwick House, the headquarters of Operation Overlord, Allied commanders finalised the invasion plans that would launch the largest amphibious assault in history.

Beneath the estate, the underground command tunnels became a hive of activity as vital communications and operational planning supported the coming assault.

Here, every decision, briefing, and intelligence update shaped the success of D-Day, while the famous invasion maps and command rooms witnessed history in the making.

Follow us as we retrace their footsteps through Southwick House and its underground command tunnels, exploring the headquarters where the fate of Operation Overlord and the liberation of Western Europe was planned.

AIRBORNE & SPECIAL OPERATIONS

Inserted by parachute in the weeks surrounding D-Day, the Jedburghs, SAS, and airborne forces were tasked with striking deep into occupied France.

They worked alongside the French Resistance, coordinating sabotage, disrupting German communications and movements, while airborne troops such as the British 6th Airborne at Pegasus Bridge and the American 82nd Airborne at La Fière secured vital objectives behind enemy lines.

Join us as we retrace their footsteps across Brittany, following Team Frederick and Team Francis, and uncover their joint operations with the British SAS and French Resistance. Along with Allied airborne forces, whose actions disrupted German movements, delayed reinforcements, and helped slow the enemy response during the D-Day landings.

Jump into the slipstream of legends

In the early hours of 6 June 1944, as Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, French SAS paratroopers of the Régiment de Chasseurs Parachutistes were dropping into Brittany as part of Operation Dingson.

Among them was Corporal Émile Bouétard, who became the first French solider killed on D-Day.
