The Kompani Linge Heroes played a pivotal role in Operation Gunnerside, a globally renowned sabotage operation during World War 2. The mission aimed to thwart Nazi Germany's production of Deuterium Oxide, commonly known as heavy water, crucial for their nuclear energy program.
Often celebrated as one of the most daring and successful sabotage missions of World War 2, Operation Gunnerside was months in the making and it began with careful planning throughout July and August, intelligence gathering intensified. Routes were studied, reconnaissance coordinated, and tactics refined. The result would eventually be a stealth operation carried out across the harsh Hardangervidda plateau.

Upon arrival at the airport, our dedicated team will be there to warmly welcome you and provide a short briefing to set the tone for the unforgettable journey ahead.
After breakfast, you’ll be issued snowshoes and poles before heading out to explore the surrounding area where the original saboteurs once hid. This session will help you grow confident with your snowshoeing gear while immersing yourself in the same landscape that tested Kompani Linge operatives over 80 years ago.
Throughout the weekend, we’ll visit several authentic saboteur hytter (cabins) and delve deeper into the remarkable story of Operation Gunnerside one of the most daring and successful sabotage missions of the Second World War.
The experience culminates in a full re-enactment of the exact route taken by the Gunnerside team during their legendary assault on the Vemork heavy water plant. We’ll end our journey at the plant itself now a world-class museum where history and modern interpretation meet.
